Chemo Again but Different

I started taking the chemo pill on Monday, the 21st.  It was a little disappointing that I had nausea after the first dose but it lessened after a few hours.  Since then the nausea has been very little and definitely tolerable, for this I am very grateful.😌 

The typical chemo schedule will continue for 7 cycles (2 weeks of chemo and 1 week off) and approximately 5 months but it will depend on future surgery and how I tolerate the chemo side effects 

After my meeting with the oncologist on Monday the plan is to take the pills for two weeks and then take two weeks off to do blood work this time since I’ll be out of the state.

If everything checks out I will begin the pills again on January 17th.  The doctor also said it would be fine to make our annual trip to Florida.  Please pray that symptoms will continue to be very minimal and that the trip to Florida goes well.  I continue to be extremely grateful for your prayers and support.🙏❤️

    I was thinking of you this week and wondered how these 'wonderful' pills were treating you. I will keep this schedule in mind-on my phone calendar to keep up to date with your plans.

    Dan and I wish you and Jim a very blessed Christmas. There is so much to be grateful for but sometimes life issues push that to the back. Safe travels and praying for easy trip to FL.

Future Decisions

Angie is continuing to heal well post-surgery even though the recovery is slow--we are thankful for making small steps in the right direction. This week we met with the oncologist and radiation oncologist. The oncologist shared he would like to begin a chemo pill after she heals and recovers post-surgery and radiation. The radiation oncologist explained her tumor size was 4.5 cm and showed no cancer in the lymph node biopsied. If there is cancer shown in lymph nodes and/or the tumor is greater than 5cm--radiation is proposed. Typically, this would suggest she does not need radiation; however, because TNBC (triple negative breast cancer) is challenging to treat, aggressive, and has a high chance of return---he feels radiation would still be a good choice. Unfortunately, we left discouraged and confused. The New Do

From Mom/Angie: Hair started falling out on Saturday night. Decided to be proactive so we gave myself a haircut on Sunday (I saved most of my hair). Picked up my wig Monday and my precious neighbor friend who is a barber came last night to shave my head.  It has been oddly very freeing.  “To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. The beginning...

 It started early on a Sunday morning (March 7th). Angie noticed a lump. It was probably nothing...but still. Monday she called to see the doctor. This lead to a biopsy and mammogram.  On March 29th, she was told it was breast cancer. A small miracle happen--she was seen by a great breast surgeon 3 hours later to get moving on next steps. We were told it was aggressive--on a scale 1-3-it's a 3. The size was moderately small less than 2cm. But still-- it was cancer. April 1st she would have an MRI and additional testing done. She met next with the oncologist (April 8th) who explained it's "Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC)." Chemotherapy --the harshest kind, surgery, radiation would need to happen. That day was a hard day to hear all of this.  Apparently, breast cancer will typically test positive for estrogen, progesterone, or HER2 receptors but with TNBC those are all locked so it limits treatment options.
