Summer Update

Update from Angie  I had a good report at my 3 month check up in May.  Blood work and cancer markers were all in the normal range, praise God!  I go back in August for another check up.  I am still struggling with my energy level but the doctor said this is perfectly normal and that it can take up to a year to get that back.  I’m trying to be patient and pace myself.  Thanks for your continued prayers and support.

The beginning...

 It started early on a Sunday morning (March 7th). Angie noticed a lump. It was probably nothing...but still. Monday she called to see the doctor. This lead to a biopsy and mammogram.  On March 29th, she was told it was breast cancer. A small miracle happen--she was seen by a great breast surgeon 3 hours later to get moving on next steps. We were told it was aggressive--on a scale 1-3-it's a 3. The size was moderately small less than 2cm. But still-- it was cancer. April 1st she would have an MRI and additional testing done. She met next with the oncologist (April 8th) who explained it's "Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC)." Chemotherapy --the harshest kind, surgery, radiation would need to happen. That day was a hard day to hear all of this.  Apparently, breast cancer will typically test positive for estrogen, progesterone, or HER2 receptors but with TNBC those are all locked so it limits treatment options. Surgery Scheduled

It has been a wild ride in the adventures the past 2 weeks. Angie has met with her oncologist, breast surgeon, radiation oncologist, plastic surgeon, and then breast surgeon again! Whew! And there was an MRI in there as well. Today- 8/12 we finally received news she will be scheduled on Wednesday for removal of the tumor. The MRI is showing some growth and we are looking forward to it being out of her body. Please pray for the procedure to go smoothly as 2 surgeons will be working together. She will have 3-4 weeks of healing and recovery before starting radiation. Chemo 2/4 phase 1

More answers to our prayers! Today Angie's white blood cell count was up to 8,300! That's a huge 1 week uptick from the 300's! She is feeling as good as to be expected and there were no real concerns except high blood pressure--which is expected when coming to these appointments. The oncologist expects her white blood cell count to drop as it did last week within the next week. Therefore, he is prescribing a low-dose antibiotic for to take Monday for 5 days when she is the most vulnerable to any type of infections. This will be a crucial time for her to rest and take it easy.  She has started the process of loosing her hair and is ready to embrace some cute beanies/caps. She looks amazing in everything she tries. Her smile is gorgeous and her fight is strong!
